People used to Microsoft Office‘s Word will be used to seeing the Portrait versus Landscape decision about their documents in the File menu’s Page Setup dialog box.

That’s me, so when a student asked about how to do this in OpenOffice flummox period ensued. This was on a Windows 7 laptop, so it being the end of the lesson I promised the student we’d have an answer next lesson. So at home tried a document on LibreOffice, that other “so similar to OpenOffice” alternative to Microsoft Word, and lo and behold, the same flummox period ensued.

So looked up good ol’ Google and got to this very useful webpage that pointed out that for OpenOffice, and then found it there too for LibreOffice, that functionality can be found at …

Format->Page..

… and (second) lo and behold, there it was in its gleaming brilliance, the Portrait versus Landscape radio button so many of us are familiar with.

This can be set before starting to really write the document or at any time after that, perhaps for some Printing format requirement or reason.
