A to Z Puzzle Game Primer Tutorial<\/p><\/div>\n

Today’s HTML and Javascript web application was inspired by Helene Hovanec’s excellent Science Puzzles for Young Einsteins<\/a> (ISBN: 0-8069-3542-1). If you are a regular reader of this blog, you may be familiar with the “drill” here. We really like the puzzles this excellent book presents, and the challenge of turning that “hardcopy” into “soft(ware)copy”.<\/p>\n

Have you ever stepped back and wondered about how you learn? Well, as long as you are not turned to face away from the edge of cliff … no blades of grass were harmed in the writing of this blog post …<\/font> we suggest you step backwards now … then do the hokey pokey, and turn around (because we are scared in the meantime you might have arrived at the cliff) …<\/font> to allow that we often prosper from a variety of presentation, even to talk about the same basic content, because we like variety … Italian style … is good<\/a><\/font>, and tend to learn more that way. And that is where we like the number of different puzzle approaches presented in this book.<\/p>\n

So, what is the go with today’s puzzle game? We want you to choose missing letters, each once only, within the range from A to Z that are apt for words related to a clue presented to the user.<\/p>\n

We’re going to base the code on the “bells and whistles” of the previous Vertical Riddle Game PHP Tutorial<\/a>, as it has good features that will “flow on” into the functionality of our new puzzle game.<\/p>\n

So try the HTML and Javascript a_to_z.html<\/a>‘s live run<\/a> (that supervises the PHP called a_to_z.php<\/a> to cater for large data sets) to get this into context. To view the changes in this link<\/a> will give you a “skeg” at how we went about basing it on that other puzzle game.<\/p>\n
