Guest Account on Mac Primer Tutorial

We’re not that much into Guest Accounts on macOS (or Mac OS X) nor Windows. But a sharing job for us yesterday has got me questioning my biases here. To me, a good Guest Account (on macOS or Windows) should …

  • be a doddle to access …
  • once logged into the Guest Account, the functionality possibilities should be reduced to a safe minimum regarding security concerns …
  • there should be a range of ways to share any data created in the Guest Account, bearing in mind the home folders are cleared when logging out of a macOS Guest Account

… and on that last point, this sharing job …

  • create a video of how three dogs go, getting on with each other, here, when left alone, one my daughter’s and the other two dogs live here … and my daughter handled it while we were out at a meeting …
  • choosing this MacBook Pro as the best means by which to share a half hour video via Photo Booth … but …
  • was restricted, access wise, to using the MacBook Pro’s Guest Account … which all worked, and my daughter on her return, could view that created Photo Booth video, in Photo Booth, and then, for us …
  • we needed to be able to share this additionally to the Non-Guest MacBook Pro account … where we realized we could use…
  • Photo Booth Export could create the half hour video onto a removeable USB Stick … then …
  • log out of Guest Account (when home folder is cleared) … then …
  • log into Non-Guest Account … and open …
  • QuickTime Player could successfully play the video off the same USB Stick, as above, for our perusal, as well

… illustrated how use of the Guest Account …

  • did not compromise security, by having to pass across any passwords to accounts … as well as being …
  • functional enough, to create the video via Photo Booth … doh! … and …
  • shareable enough to be able to share the same video data, in a collaborative way, between parties

… and what more can we ask of a Guest Account, especially as you can also access webmail type emails from a web browser, there, as well?
